The Macau government confirmed early today Macau's 46th COVID-19 case, the first in 78 days.

According to a statement by the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre shortly after midnight, the male patient is a 57-year-old Filipino Macau resident.

At 10:45 a.m. yesterday, the man took Cathay Pacific flight CX906 from Manila to Hong Kong. After arriving in Hong Kong, he took a ferry from Hong Kong's airport to Macau at 2 p.m. While he had no fever when entering Macau, he underwent a routine COVID-19 nucleic acid test upon arrival, after which he was transferred to one of Macau's currently two "quarantine hotels" for 14 days isolation and medical observation. Soon after arriving in Macau, his nucleic acid test (NAT) came out positive for COVID-19, after which the patient was immediately transferred to the isolation ward of the Conde de S. Januario Hospital Centre for treatment.

According to a government source, the patient has been classified as an imported case. A total of 44 of Macau's now 46 novel coronavirus disease cases have been classified by the Health Bureau (SSM) as imported, while two have been classified as cases connected to imported ones.

The source also said that the 46th confirmed patient holds a Macau ID card.

During today evening’s Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre press conference, the Health Bureau’s (SSM) Control of Communicable Diseases and Surveillance of Diseases Department Coordinator Leong Iek Hou presented the information on the patient’s epidemiology (travel history before his return to Macau). In late January, the Filipino flew from Macau to the Philippines where he had been living with his wife in their home in Manila. The man told SSM staff that he had been staying at home in most of the time during his stay there before his return to Macau due to the implementation of a stay-at-home order by the Manila authorities.
