A new exhibition kicked off at the Rui Cunha Foundation (FRC) gallery on Tuesday evening, this time presenting the decade-long artistic journey from 2016 to 2026 by Macau-based artist Liang Yurong (梁裕榮), with time playing a central role.
Aptly titled “Here and Now”, the free-admission solo showcase brings together 24 works comprising oils and mixed media. Among them are signature pieces, including “Still Life Sketch,” “Self-Portrait,” “Heart Imprint: Triptych,” “Macau’s Coastal Waters,” “The Waves As Before” series, “Life Breath,” and “Shared Breath.”
Liang has always had “time” and “memory” at the core of his works, as noted in his artist biography on the Macau Artist Society (MAS) website, which also highlighted that he has devoted years to the oil painting discipline.
Currently a doctoral student at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, he holds a bachelor’s degree from the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts and a master’s degree from the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), according to a statement by the gallery. His art has evolved from early technical mastery of light and colour to exploring “time” through Macau’s history. The statement added that the journey has culminated in a profound contemplation of life, driving his shift toward mixed media.
Meanwhile, in her curator’s statement displayed at the gallery, Jenny Cheong Wai Man noted that the artist’s evolving perspective reflects the passage of time. This journey spans from early still life and self-portraits to recent reinterpretations of Macau’s history, culminating in the deeply introspective Sheng Xi (生息; “Life Breath”) and Tong Xi (同息; “Shared Breath”) series, Cheong’s statement highlighted.
The exhibition is organised by the gallery in conjunction with the Macau Youth Art Association, and MAS. One can view the works from Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturdays, with the event’s final day being next Saturday, July 18.
The ground-floor gallery is located at 749 Avenida da Praia Grande, Luen Pong Building.
