The Judiciary Police (PJ) were notified by the Public Security Police (PSP) at 5:20 p.m. yesterday that a corpse was found floating in the coastal waters under the Governor Nobre de Carvalho Bridge (commonly known as the “Old Bridge”) off Nam Van Lake, PJ spokesman Leng Kam Lon said in a statement last night, adding that the deceased has been identified as a 19-year-old local man.
The victim was confirmed as a male by Macau Customs Service officers on arrival and the body was taken to the Nam Van Lake Nautical Centre, from where he was rushed by Fire Services Bureau (CB) paramedics to the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre for emergency treatment.
The statement said that a resident walking past the lake at 5 p.m. yesterday saw a corpse floating in the water, so he or she called the police.
Upon a preliminary examination, no suspicious or criminally induced injuries were found on the corpse, according to the statement, which added that the exact cause of the death still needed to be determined by a forensic examination.
The case was listed as a dead body found, the statement said.
