Macau's imports of mobile phones rose 205.1 percent year-on-year to 1.35 billion patacas in January, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) has announced.
According to a DSEC statement this week, mobile phones were Macau's number-two import item last month, after food and beverage imports (1.36 billion patacas) and before garment and footwear imports (1.27 billion patacas).
Merchandise exports increased by 29.0 percent to 1.42 billion patacas. Re-exports accounted for 88.1 percent of all exports. Some 76.8 percent of Macau's exports were shipped to Hong Kong.
Imports grew 28.5 percent year-on-year to 10.69 billion patacas, resulting in a merchandise trade balance deficit of 9.26 billion patacas. Most imports came from the Chinese mainland (36.9 percent), France (14.8 percent) and Italy (13.2 percent).
