The election of the sixth-term Chief Executive (CE) Election Committee has been set for August 11, and Chief Executive Electoral Affairs Commission President Song Man Lei told reporters yesterday that the Macao Polytechnic University Multi-Sport Pavilion and Macau Forum in Zape, as well as Escola Luso-Chinesa Técnico-Profissional in Areia Preta have preliminarily been selected as the election’s polling stations running from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. that day.
Song said that the details will be finalised and announced after the commission has conducted an internal inspection of the three venues, adding that the commission has, in conjunction with relevant public entities, conducted environmental and traffic inspections in the vicinity of the schools and institutions interested in being used as polling stations, and was inclined to maintain the three locations used five years ago. She also said that no consideration has been given to setting up polling stations in Taipa and Coloane for the time being.
Song made the remarks after last night’s Briefing Session on the Electoral Process of the Election of the Members of the Chief Executive Election Committee at the Macau Science Centre in Nape.
In terms of the operating hours for voting, according to Song, the opening hours of the polling stations will be maintained as in the previous election, i.e., from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on August 11, which, she added, are expected to be officially announced in mid-July.
Song noted that more than 770 individuals will be eligible to vote in the upcoming election, adding the commission hopes that by stepping up publicity and enhancing transparency, more people will participate in the voting process.
According to Song, so far, the commission has held five meetings.
Delivering a speech at the briefing session, Song noted that the Chief Executive Election Committee consists of 400 members from four sectors, of which 344 members from the first sector, the sub-sectors of the second sector, as well as the labour and social services sub-sectors of the third sector, are elected, according to the law, by voters from the corresponding sector or sub-sector.
The session was open to the public.
