A Hong Kong-mainland couple and a non-resident worker (NRW) from Vietnam were separately arrested on Friday for taking and selling drugs respectively, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Cheong Un Hong said during a regular press conference yesterday.
Cheong identified the couple as a 46-year-old male mainlander surnamed Jiang and a 33-year-old Hong Kong woman surnamed Zheng. Both claimed to be jobless. Cheong identified the Vietnamese as a 33-year-old man surnamed Truong who works as a handyman.
Based on a tip-off, the Judiciary Police (PJ) identified Jiang as a suspected drug user and intercepted both Jiang and Zheng on Friday afternoon near their flat in Taipa. The police seized modified plastic bottles, plastic bags and aluminium foil from their flat. Later that evening, the police arrested Truong in a building in the central district. The police discovered a small pack of methamphetamine (commonly known as ice) weighing 0.6 grams in a hidden area of the staircase. The police then searched his flat and discovered six small packets of ice totalling 4.6 grams, along with an electronic scale and small plastic bags. In total, 5.2 grams of ice were seized, with an estimated street value of 15,800 patacas.
Under questioning, all suspects refused to cooperate; however, Jiang and Zheng tested positive for methamphetamine. The police discovered that they had purchased drugs worth 3,000 patacas from Truong at least three times. Cheong noted that Truong had been selling drugs in Macau for several months, with drugs hidden in the residential building’s staircase in preparation of transactions.
The three suspects have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP). Jiang and Zheng are facing charges of drug use and possession of drug paraphernalia, while Truong is facing charges of selling drugs and possession of drug trafficking paraphernalia.
