An opening ceremony was held yesterday for the 2025 Macau Golf Masters at the Macau International Golf course in Cotai, this year marking its 10th Anniversary and gathering 147 participants, including 41 golfers with intellectual and/or physical disabilities, according to a statement yesterday by the Charity Association of Macau Business Readers.

The statement said that the tournament, which ends tomorrow, features players from 17 different countries, including Special Olympics golf delegations, Paralympic athletes, and both current and former G4D (Golf for the Disabled) Tour players.

The first round of the competition took place yesterday, the statement said. Athletes are competing across both the 9-hole Team Competition and the 18-hole Individual Stroke Play events, according to the statement.

The first and second days are Masters Competitions held under competition formats inspired by Special Olympics golf rules, while tomorrow’s Grand Finale will see “an inclusive team tournament where each corporate team is paired with one of the world’s top golfers from the World League and the top four qualifiers from the Challenger League”.

Yesterday’s event also featured warm-up and practice sessions that included golf clinics for local residents, many from community-based non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

The statement quoted tournament Director Stefan Kuehn as saying: “The 10th anniversary of the Macau Golf Masters is more than a milestone – it’s a movement”.

He added: “This week we celebrate not only excellence in golf but the power of diversity, the joy of team spirit, and the importance of visibility for athletes of all abilities.”
