Macau hotels log year-best room occupancy rate of 91 pct in July

      Macau’s 147 hotels recorded an average guestroom occupancy rate of 91 percent in July, the highest rate in the first seven months of the year, representing a year-on-year growth of 1.9 percentage points, as announced by the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC).

Five-star hotels reported an average guestroom occupancy rate of 94.2 percent, up by 2.3 percentage points year-on-year.

According to a DSEC statement yesterday, 1.28 million guests checked into Macau’s hotels last month, a year-on-year increase of 4.0 percent.

At the end of July, Macau's number of hotel rooms stood at 45,000, an increase of 1.0 percent year-on-year.

Guests from the Chinese mainland totalled 958,000 last month, accounting for 74.7 percent of the total. Foreign guests rose by 7.3 percent year-on-year to 82,000, or 6.4 percent of the total. South Koreans, numbering 25,000 last month, made up the largest segment of foreign guests. Some 5,000 US citizens checked into local hotels last month. 

In July, guests stayed for an average of 1.6 nights.

Meanwhile, in the first seven months, Macau’s hotel sector received 8.48 million guests, a year-on-year drop of 0.3 percent. Hotels’ average guestroom occupancy rate rose by 4.7 percentage points to 89.4 percent between January and July.
