Construction of the secondary school in the Macau New Neighbourhood (MNN) residential estate on Zhuhai’s Hengqin island has been completed, and it will start operating in the upcoming 2026/27 academic year, Macau Urban Renewal Limited (MUR) announced yesterday.
The current school campus at the MNN neighbourhood is used for kindergarten and primary school education. The current school, run by Macau’s Hou Kong Middle School, started operating in September 2024.
Located next to the current campus for kindergarten and primary school education, the newly completed secondary school will also be operated by Hou Kong Middle School.
The secondary school is connected with the current school campus via a footbridge.
The school in the MNN neighbourhood run by Hou Kong Middle School is officially known as Hengqin School Affiliated to Hou Kong Middle School.
According to an MUR statement yesterday, the MNN secondary school project, which got off the ground in May 2024, was completed early this year, after which the project’s final inspection and formal acceptance was completed last month.
The site where the newly completed secondary school is located covers about 20,000 square metres. The school has five storeys with a gross floor area of about 29,000 square metres. The school will run up to 36 secondary school classes, with a capacity to accommodate about 1,200 students, according to the statement.
