Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai has met with the director of the Political Department of the Supreme People’s Court, Sun Zhenping, where they exchanged views on deepening judicial exchanges and cooperation between the Chinese mainland and Macau, and joint efforts to enhance legal guarantees for the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin.
According to a statement by the Macao Government Information Bureau (GCS) on Wednesday night, the meeting was held at Government Headquarters earlier that day.
Welcoming Sun and his delegation to Macau, Sam expressed his gratitude to the Supreme People’s Court for its long-standing and firm support for the Macao Special Administrative Region’s (MSAR) judicial work and the training of legal professionals.
Sam noted that the MSAR Government is advancing the implementation of Macau’s 3rd Five-Year Plan in close alignment with the nation’s 15th Five-Year Plan. As part of this effort, the local government will promote the modernisation of Macau’s legal system and enhance judicial efficiency, he said.
Sam noted that Macau’s 3rd Five-Year Plan also outlines the local government’s commitment to advancing Hengqin’s high-quality development, including initiatives to deepen the alignment of rules and mechanisms between Macau and Hengqin, accelerate Macau-Hengqin integrated development, better facilitate Macau’s appropriate economic diversification, and strengthen Macau’s participation in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).
Sam said that during the 3rd Five-Year Plan period, the MSAR Government expects the Supreme People’s Court to continue to provide guidance and assistance, helping Macau improve its legal system and strengthen its legal talent pool, so as to enhance Macau’s law-based governance effectiveness, serving as a key pillar for achieving the goals outlined by the 3rd Five-Year Plan. The Supreme People’s Court’s support will also provide robust legal guarantees for Hengqin’s ongoing development, Sam said.
During the meeting, according to the GCS statement, both sides agreed that judicial exchanges and cooperation between Macau and the Chinese mainland rest on a solid foundation. They said that the MSAR Government and the Supreme People’s Court will maintain close contact to jointly drive new progress in judicial cooperation.
