Macau’s inaugural “International Tea Day Carnival” took place on May 16 at both the Tea Culture House and the surrounding Lou Lim Ioc Garden, seeing a total of 2,000 visits during its one-day run, according to its organiser, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM).

The bureau noted in a statement released on Friday that “International Tea Day” is annually celebrated on May 21, as designated by the United Nations. While it has passed, the statement underlined that more activities are set to take place in Macau from next month all the way to December, being geared towards promoting Chinese tea culture. Guided tours at the Tea Culture House will also be available on the first, third, and (if that is the case) fifth Saturdays and the corresponding Sundays of each month at 3 p.m.

Highlighting the activities, the statement said that sessions for the “Charm of tea and traditional Chinese clothing” are slated to take place at the Tea Culture House’s first floor on June 13, July 11, August 8, September 12, October 10, November 7 and December 12. The “Shen-hour* tea tasting with singing bowl music” activity meanwhile will be held on July 25, September 26 and November 21, according to the statement.

Lastly, “Painted tea tins” invites parents and children to jointly design and paint tea tins, with workshop sessions to be held on June 27, August 22, October 24 and December 26, the statement said.

One can register for the activities on the Macao One Account in phases. More details are available on www.iam.gov.mo
