A total of 880 drones were launched to the night sky yesterday as the “Light up Macao Drone Gala 2022” show debuted at Anim’Arte NAM VAM, using “Spring Rejoice” as the theme, the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) said in a statement.

The first set of drones went up at 8 p.m. with the show lasting for about 15 minutes.

According to the statement, a team from UNESCO Creative City of Design in Shenzhen, is responsible for the choreography and producing the eight drone shows taking place this month. The statement said that the first spring-themed show, presented by MGTO, started off in the form of raindrops, representing how water nourishes all forms of life in nature. The statement pointed out that last night’s second show, presented by the gaming resort operator Melco Group, displayed flowers, a tree and a blade of grass formed by the drones to symbolise the arrival of spring.

The statement pointed out that the drones transformed from a bare tree to a leafy tree and then to a dancer wearing a leaf-like dress, adding that the movement of the drones was like animations on television.

The statement said that following the first show night yesterday, the Drone Gala will continue above Nam Van Lake at 8:30 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. today, using “Fun-Tastic Summer” as the theme. The statement added that the shows titled “Golden Fall Delights” and “A Merry Winter” will be performing on Saturday and Sunday at 8 p.m. and 9.30 p.m. respectively.

Meanwhile, the statement reminded the public that there are also some fringe activities taking place such as Big Big Drone Exhibition, which showcases a 5-metre-long gigantic drone under the white canopy from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. until Sunday, and a Drone Formation Display, which presents a 200-drone formation of “I MACAO” at Anim’Arte Nam Wan from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. tomorrow and on Friday.
