China Everbright Bank held a ceremony in Macau yesterday to mark the opening of its branch here, where the bank’s chairman Wang Jiang pledged that the bank will be fully dedicated to contributing to the development of modern finance in Macau.
The ceremony, which was held at Macau Tower, was also attended by a number of prominent guests such as Edmund Ho Hau Wah, Macau’s first chief executive and now a vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Macau Secretary for Economy and Finance Lei Wai Nong, and Yan Zhichan, a deputy director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR).
According to a chief executive order published in the Official Gazette (BO) in July last year, the MSAR government has authorised China Everbright Bank Company Limited, which is headquartered in Beijing, to open a branch in the MSAR.
The branch, officially known as China Everbright Bank Company Limited Macau Branch, is a commercial bank that is only permitted to provide services to commercial enterprises, associations, foundations, and public entities, according to the chief executive order.
China Everbright Bank Company Limited Macau Branch is headquartered on the 23rd floor of the Finance and IT Centre in Nam Van.
Addressing yesterday’s ceremony, Wang said that as a bridgehead for the nation’s opening-up, Macau is not only an important gateway for the mainland to connect with the world, but has also been given a unique role as a commercial and trade platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries (PSCs).
Also addressing the ceremony, Macau Monetary Authority (AMCM) President Benjamin Chan Sau San said that the Macau government is eager to see that China Everbright Bank Company Limited Macau Branch will operate in compliance with the local government’s financial policy, with the aim of making a positive contribution to the development of Macau’s modern finance.
Chan also said that the development of Macau’s financial sector in conjunction with the Guangdong-Macau In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin will bring Macau’s financial institutions more extensive development opportunities.

Wang said during the meeting that China Everbright Bank will, through the operation of its local branch, grasp the opportunities created by the development of the Guangdong-Macau In-depth Cooperation Zone, pledging that the bank will make its contribution to Macau’s high-quality development.
