A visual arts exhibition titled “Safe As” is being held at the Rui Cunha Foundation Gallery. The event is organised by the 10 Marias Cultural Association in conjunction with the foundation.

According to an article on the gallery’s website, the event is a collective exhibition by five local artists from the association showcasing 10 creations including visual arts and installations. The purpose for these original works is to manifest the different facets of personal and family experiences, among other interactions, during the different phases of the COVID-19 pandemic this year, the article points out.

From the first alert about the pandemic to the present, the impact on all nations has been intense and reveals consequences in the way people live their daily lives, how they communicate, how they move, how they work, how they deal with different problems and situations, never before experienced, the article underlines, adding that the exhibition aims to generate as many thoughts and reflections as possible on the theme, according to the information.

According to Mónica Coteriano, curator of the exhibition, the project highlights three main themes that formed the structure for the initial creation: The Mask – as a world symbol of 2020; The Cloistered Experience – as the new reality of 2020 and all the consequences that this has brought to contemporary society; and The Virtual Communication – as a new form of relationships at work and on a personal level.

The exhibition is on until January 8 at the Rui Cunha Foundation Gallery at 749, Avenida da Praia Grande from Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. On Saturday it opens from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free.

As part of the government’s COVID-19 prevention measures, all visitors are required to wear a facemask, have their temperature checked and present their digital health code when entering the gallery.
