Macau’s effectiveness in preventing and controlling the COVID-19 epidemic has been“highly recognised at home and abroad,” Wang Dong, the acting commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR), said in her New Year’s Message today.
Wang underlined that also thanks to the care and guidance by the central government and support and cooperation rendered by the mainland’s provinces and cities, the novel coronavirus situation in Macau is stable and under control.
Wang stressed that the close cooperation between the motherland and Macau in response to the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the advantages of the “One Country, Two Systems” principle that have become even more prominent.
“2020 was a very unusual year in the history of the New China, in the history of the Chinese nation, and in human history,” Wang said, adding that “facing the severe impact of the novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic, and under the strong leadership of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core, the people of the country have striven to win the ‘double victory’ of epidemic prevention and control and economic and social development, and made decisive achievements in building a well-off society in an all-round way.”
