Monetary Authority of Macau (AMCM) said in a statement yesterday that it has been preparing for the launch of the first phase of the integrated payment machine “Simple Pay”.
The “Simple Pay” system is an integrated payment machine, which combines all digital payment methods, including Mpay, MacauPass, Alipay, BOCPay (Bank of China) and Tai Fung Pay, in one machine. Currently, there are different machines for different digital payment methods.
According to the statement, AMCM has been working with banks and digital payment companies to improve and test the integrated payment machine. The statement pointed out that in the first phase of the machine’s launch customers’ QR codes on their smartphones will be scanned by the cashier. The statement also said that the second phase will have customers scanning shops’ QR codes for payment.
The statement noted that currently AMCM is discussing with and renewing the service contracts of shops that will be engaged in “Simple Pay’s” first phase. The statement said that AMCM has been communicating with shops and explaining in detail any questions they may have.
The statement said that during the first phase of “Simple Pay”, AMCM will be collecting data on the usage, capability and reactions of customers, adding that there will also be a stress test to use it as reference for improving the system.
According to the statement, the machine will be able to accept all forms of local digital payment methods and other payment methods such as credit cards, NFC (Near Field Communication) detection payment, and none local digital payments.
NFC is a short-range wireless communication technology that supports electronic payments by smartphones, such as ApplePay.
