A local married man was arrested on Sunday for holding his ex-girlfriend against her will earlier that day, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Erica Cheong Im Sim said at a regular press conference on Wednesday.
The 34-year-old married local suspect surnamed Vong, told the police that he works as an engineer. Vong claimed that he is the victim’s, a local, boyfriend while the victim who is in her thirties told the police that Vong is her ex-boyfriend.
According to Cheong, the Public Security Police (PSP) received a call at about 1:25 a.m. on Sunday from a citizen who lives in a residential building in Avenida do Kwong Tong, Taipa that he or she saw a man in the street dragging a woman into a seven-seater people carrier and heard the woman shouting for help. When the PSP officers arrived at the scene, the man drove away at high speed. The officers followed the car and intercepted the suspect at the junction of Estrada Governado Albano de Oliveira and Rua de Fat San.
According to Cheong, the woman told the police that Vong followed her when she left work at around midnight that night. He asked that they get back together but the victim refused. They then started quarrelling and Vong suddenly pushed her to the ground, dragged her into his car and locked the doors. The victim was scared and shouted for help. During that period, as she wanted to call the police she repeatedly asked to get out of the car but Vong refused. When he saw the police coming, he drove away with the victim still in the vehicle.
Vong admitted that he and his girlfriend pulled and pushed each other, but denied that he pushed her to the ground, dragged her into his car and locked the doors, saying that he only wanted to get back together with his girlfriend.
Vong was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) on Monday, facing a false imprisonment charge, according to Article 152 of the Macau Penal Code, Cheong said. The offender faces up to five years behind bars, according to the article.
