Shops owners in Taipa and Coloane are concerned about the operation of “Simple Pay” – the new integrated e-payment machines –Taipa and Coloane Community Service Consultative Council member, Ng Hong Kei, said during its regular meeting at the Islands District Public Services Centre in Seac Pai Van yesterday.

According to Ng, shop owners said that they had only received a sign saying that his or her shop accepts “Simple Pay” however the owners failed to understand the operation of the system. Ng added that the shop owners said that they received the sign before the equipment for “Simple Pay”.

Ng suggested that the government set up guidelines for ‘Simple Pay” and improve the advertisement for the new e-payment system. He also urged the Monetary Authority of Macau (AMCM) to do a stress assessment so there will be fewer system errors in the future.

Deputy convener of the council, Ng Chio Wai, said he hoped that the government would clarify the length of the warrantee on the machine and any possible transaction problems in the future, adding that regulations should be set up to protect residents’ benefits.

Another deputy convener of the council, Liu Fengming, urged the government to quickly wrap up the construction project of the elevated walkway along Avenida de Guimarães. She also said that the construction company should relocate the building material, so that pedestrians and drivers are able to see the oncoming traffic better.

Moreover, during a press briefing after the council’s closed-door meeting with Public Security Police (PSP) and Judiciary Police (PJ) representatives, Liu said that the number of crime cases in Taipa and Coloane district was lower last year, compared to 2019’s figures. Liu noted that last year, there were 1,141 crime cases reported, which is a 50 percent decrease compared to 2019. She said that the representatives said that it could be because fewer tourists were visiting during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ng said that according to the police representatives, prior to Chinese New Year, they will patrol more often in the district at night, especially villages in Taipa.
