A non-resident worker was arrested for sexually harassing five women at the Barrier Gate checkpoint on January 29, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Lam Keong said at a regular press conference on Friday.
The male suspect surnamed Fan, who in his forties, told the police that he works as an advertising installer.
According to Lam, a female non-resident worker, in her twenties, reported to the Public Security Police (PSP) at the Barrier Gate checkpoint on January 29 at about 9:35 p.m. that a man had touched her buttocks when she was on the escalator to the checkpoint’s departure hall earlier.
She told the police that she followed the man and discovered that he also touched another four females in the departure hall. The victim decided to report the case right away to the police who intercepted the suspect at the scene.
Under questioning, Fan denied committing the crime, claiming that he was in a hurry to return to the mainland to take the nucleic acid test (NAT). He claimed that he hadn’t noticed whether he touched any women in the departure hall. However, after repeated questioning by the police, Fan eventually admitted that he had touched the five women’s buttocks, Lam said.
Fan has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a sexual harassment charge, according to Lam.
