According to a Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) statement on Saturday, the carcasses of three cats have been found in a back alley in Iao Hon district.
The statement said residents and a local animal protection group reported on Saturday that a pregnant cat and two female kittens were found dead. The statement pointed out that IAM officials and police went to the scene to investigate soon after.
According to the statement, after performing autopsies on the felines, the officials assume that they are dealing with an animal abuse case. The statement noted that the cats did not have any external wounds or bone fractures, therefore eliminating the possibility of the felines having been physically abused or fallen from height. The statement also pointed out that the cats state of decomposition varied, so the officials believe that they did not die at the same time. The statement speculated that the three cats was possibly moved from somewhere else in Macau and disposed of in Iao Hon.
The statement said that after investigating the case, the bureau has classified the case as suspicious and decided to file it under “animal abuse”. The statement said that the case has been transferred to the police for further investigation.
According to the crime of cruelty to animals listed in the Animal Protection Law, the offender faces a prison term of up to one year or a fine.
