The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement yesterday that an animal protection group has reported that three cat carcasses were found in an inner alley in Iao Hon.
The statement did not say when the group reported the case and when IAM officials started to investigate.
According to the statement, when the police arrived at the scene, they found two carcasses that were severely decomposed, assuming that they had been dead for a while. The statement noted that the other carcass has been taken to the IAM kennel for an autopsy.
Last Friday, three dead cats were also found in a back alley in Iao Hon. The bureau speculated that the three cats were possibly moved from somewhere else in Macau and disposed of in Iao Hon.
According to the crime of cruelty to animals listed in the Animal Protection Law, the offender faces a prison term of up to one year or a fine.
The bureau urged residents to report to the police or call IAM on 2887 0120 if they find a dead animal, adding that residents should not handle any animal carcass themselves.
