A local fugitive involved in drug abuse, possession of prohibited weapons and usury was transferred to Macau by the Guangdong Public Security Department yesterday, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Chan Wun Man said at a special press conference in the area between Zhuhai’s Gongbei and Macau’s Barrier Gate checkpoints.

The 59-year-old local suspect is surnamed Lam.

According to Chan, Lam was sentenced in May 2015 to a suspended three-year prison term for a range of crimes in Macau such as casino loan-sharking and possession of drug-taking paraphernalia and prohibited weapons.

In February 2017, he was sentenced to one year and four months for a drug offence in October 2013. Combined with his suspended jail term, Lam was handed down a prison term of three years and three months.

However, Lam absconded from Macau while he was appealing his sentence so that

the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) requested the Judiciary Police’s assistance to track him down.

Chan said the Judiciary Police were notified that Lam was arrested in Zhongshan in early 2019 for assault. He was sentenced to two years in prison and was released yesterday. The Guangdong Public Security Department immediately handed Lam to Macau. He was transferred from the Barrier Gate checkpoint right away to the prison in Coloane to serve his local sentence, according to Chan.
