A father attacked his severely mentally-disabled son when the latter uncontrollably cried and yelled outside their flat, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Chan Wun Man said yesterday during a regular press conference.
Chan said that the father, surnamed Kuok, is a 58-year-old local resident who works as a driver, while his son is a nine-year-old.
According to Chan, the family live in the city centre and on February 7 at 9 p.m. the son and his mother were outside the flat, when all of the sudden the son started crying and thrashing about. Chan said the sound of his son’s voice alerted his father who then came out of the flat and started hitting his son. Chan noted that the mother immediately tried to separate the two, after which she left the scene with their son. Chan added that the mother and son reported the incident to the police soon after.
Chan said that on February 9, the police went to see Kuok at his workplace in the northern district and arrested him. Chan pointed out that Kuok admitted to the crime and said that he had attacked his son because he “lost control”.
According to Chan, the suspect was transferred to the Public Prosecution Office (MP) last Wednesday, adding that he faces a domestic violence charge.
