A local man was arrested last week for attacking his live-in girlfriend as he suspected her of having an affair, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Chan Wun Man said at regular press conference this week.
The 44-year-old suspect surnamed Ho owns a car dealership. His 30-year-old girlfriend started work as a sales assistant last month.
According to Chan, the victim reported to the police last Wednesday that she had been attacked by her boyfriend. She told the police that she had met Ho in 2018 when they become lovers and moved into a flat in Coloane together.
However, according to the victim, Ho is a control freak and whenever he discovered that she had contact with another man, he punched, kicked and verbally insulted her.
The victim started a new job as a sales assistant last month, which required her to call other men regularly. Ho grew more and more dissatisfied with the situation and suspected her of having an affair.
According to Chan, when Ho was checking the victim’s smartphone last Wednesday morning at home, he discovered that there was another WeChat account in her phone which was not logged in. Ho suspected his girlfriend had set up another WeChat account as she was having an affair. He then asked his girlfriend to log into the account but she refused. Ho became emotional, slapped the victim’s face and beat her, resulting in the fracture of her right wrist and facial injuries. After discussing the incident with her mother, the victim decided to report the case to the police.
Chan said Ho went to a police station on Wednesday afternoon, claiming that he had only slapped the victim after she had attacked him. However, due to the police investigation and the victim’s injuries, the Judiciary Police (PJ) confirmed Ho as the suspected culprit, according to Chan.
Ho was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) last Thursday, facing a domestic violence charge, according to Chan.
