After a one-year hiatus due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, the vice-president of the Women’s General Association of Macau, Cheung Pui Peng, announced yesterday that its Women’s Sports Festival will resume on March 21 at the Tap Seac Multi-Sports Pavilion.

Cheung made the remarks yesterday during a press conference at the Sports Bureau (ID) in Zape.

The Women’s General Association is widely known as Fu Luen, its Cantonese name.

Cheung later told reporters on the sidelines of the press conference that her team has been discussing the situation in “great detail” and she was happy to announce that the sports festival will be reinstated. She said the aim of the festival was to promote a healthy lifestyle.

The bureau’s Acting Head of Sports Development Lou I Wan said that this year’s festival will include a series of fun and challenging sports activities for women born between 1961 and 2003 to take part in.

Lou said that spectators are welcome to watch the festival, adding that they must, however, follow the Health Bureau’s (SSM) COVID-19 prevention guidelines – wearing facemasks, having their temperatures checked and displaying a valid Macau Health Code.

According to Cheung, starting from today until March 17, female residents can sign up in groups of 8-10. For more information, call 2823 6363 or 2835 3748 for enquiries.
