A 31-year-old local man was held up by a gang of robbers on Tuesday night and robbed of HK$1.2 million, and one of the robbers was allegedly wielding a gun, a Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesperson said yesterday.
Speaking during a regular press briefing, the spokesperson said that on Tuesday night, the victim received a call from a mainland man he had met at a casino a while ago, informing him that someone wanted to exchange yuan to HK dollars, asking him to take the cash to a room at a hotel in Cotai.
According to the spokesperson, the mainlander had previously been helping the victim get in touch with mainland visitors who were looking to exchange their money to HK dollars.
