The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement yesterday that it plans to remove a Cinnamomum burmannii tree which has rotten roots and could potentially collapse.

According to the statement, the tree at Jardim do Lago (“Lake Garden”) in Taipa runs the risk of collapse due to its infected roots. The statement said that in order to protect residents’ safety, the bureau has decided to remove the tree this week.

The statement noted that in January, an IAM patrol spotted the tree’s leaves were withering abnormally, adding that after assessing the tree, the bureau confirmed that the tree’s roots are rotten.

The statement pointed out that the bureau tried to rescue the tree but its health continued to deteriorate and it could potentially collapse. Therefore, the statement said in order to protect residents, the bureau has decided to remove the tree and disinfect the soil around the tree

The bureau urged residents to take good care of trees, adding that if residents found a tree in an abnormal condition, they should contact the bureau through “IAM Connect” or call 2833 7676.
