An event entitled “Old Times – New Year – Macau Lunar New Year Nostalgia Exhibition”, organised by the Oral History Association of Macau in conjunction with the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM), is being held at the IAM Gallery.

According to an IAM statement on its website, the exhibition showcases the different customs and traditions for celebrating the Chinese New Year (CNY) among the local Chinese, Macanese and overseas Chinese. Macau’s CNY customs include traditional games, lion dances, seasonal decorations and special dishes.

The exhibition consists of four segments – the “Good Fortune Pavilion”, “Peace Pavilion”, “New Light Pavilion” and a multimedia area, where visitors can revisit the past and dive into the memory of traditional CNY celebrations.

Guided tours in Cantonese and Mandarin are available on Saturdays from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. A CNY picture printing workshop is available free of charge on Sundays from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. for 10 participants to register on-site on a first-come-first-served basis, according to the statement.

The exhibition runs until April 6 in the ground-floor gallery at the IAM headquarters in Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro. It opens daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Admission is free.

Visitors are required to wear a facemask and have their temperature checked when entering the gallery.
