According to a recent statement by Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, in order to support the hospitality sector’s recovery, this year’s edition of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants introduces “Essence of Asia”, a new initiative honouring the industry’s unsung heroes, to complement the annual ranking that will be revealed on March 25.

The statement noted that to accompany this year’s list of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, “Essence of Asia” recognises establishments that represent the spirit of Asian gastronomy. The statement said that this unranked collection turns the spotlight on restaurants that have had a positive impact on their communities and local cuisine, whether during the COVID-19 crisis or over a sustained period.

Integral to Asia’s culinary ecosystem, these casual restaurants preserve culinary traditions, honour authentic flavours and provide a vital link to their communities, according to the statement.

The statement said that “Essence of Asia” will be revealed via Asia’s 50 Best’s various digital and social media platforms on March 16, a week prior to the virtual ceremony for Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2021. The statement added that followed by the global broadcast, the conversation around Essence of Asia will continue with #50BestTalks, an online series of intimate interviews featuring some of the region’s leading chefs and thought leaders. Further details of this series will be announced on Asia’s 50 Best’s social channels in the coming weeks.

According to the statement, the ninth edition of the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list, sponsored by S. Pellegrino & Acqua Panna, will be revealed during a virtual awards ceremony on March 25, adding that this year’s results will be broadcast to a global audience via Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Facebook page and the 50 Best Restaurants TV YouTube channel.

The statement said that a number of special awards will be announced in advance of the official ceremony, such as the Inedit Damm Chefs’ Choice Award (next Thursday). The statement also pointed out that additional prizes will be announced during the official online ceremony (March 25), including the Sustainable Restaurant Award, the Gin Mare Art of Hospitality Award and Asia’s Best Pastry Chef Award.

According to its official website (www.theworlds50best.com). Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants was launched in 2013 to celebrate gastronomy across the region and to provide diners around the globe with local insight and culinary recommendations. The ninth edition of the list will be announced on March 25 via a virtual awards ceremony on Facebook and YouTube. The awards show will start at 4:30 p.m. Macau time.

The Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list is created by the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy, a group of over 300 leaders in the restaurant industry across Asia, each selected for their expert opinion of Asia’s restaurant scene, the website’s “About Us” points out.

The Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list is published by William Reed Business Media, which also publishes The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, launched in 2002, and Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants, launched in 2013.
