A casino in Cotai reported to the Judiciary Police last Tuesday that two counterfeit HK$1,000 banknotes were discovered there, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Ho Chan Nam said at a regular press conference yesterday.
According to Ho, the Judiciary Police were notified by the casino last Tuesday morning that staff had discovered the two fake banknotes while checking the money from a cash box of one of the gaming tables.
The two banknotes failed to pass the banknote recognition and counting machine. After further inspection of the banknotes, staff members discovered that the paper quality and colour of the banknotes were different from the genuine ones, and they suspected that the banknotes were counterfeit and therefore notified the police.
Ho said the two counterfeit banknotes purported to be banknotes printed by the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited, dated January 1, 2013, with the serial numbers of CV278614 and CK140686 respectively.
The police urged residents to notify the police immediately when coming across suspicious banknotes.
The police are continuing their investigation into the case, and no one had been arrested at the time of the press conference, according to Ho.
