Project cost 479 million patacas
The expansion of the Macau Grand Prix Museum has been completed and its trial operation will start later this month, the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) said in a statement yesterday.
According to the statement, at the beginning of its trial operation individuals and organisations from different sectors will be invited to visit the museum and provide feedback.
The statement said that members of the public can visit by appointment starting next month. The statement added that further details about arrangements for the general public to book visits to the museum will be announced in due course.
The statement pointed out that after its remodelling the museum now consists of four floors with a total floor area of around 16,000 square metres. The statement said the aim of the museum was for visitors to gain a deeper understanding about the Macau Grand Prix while enjoying its infotainment and leisure experience.
The statement noted that the museum has been accredited with the gold standard of the green building certification Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).
The statement also said that after its expansion, the museum infrastructure now incorporates a solar energy system comprising 446 solar panels which capture and transform solar energy from the rooftop into electricity for partially running the air-conditioning and water-heating systems, to support the use of renewable energy.
The statement noted that the entire project cost about 479 million patacas. The statement underlined that the cost mainly covered construction of the expansion and various museum facilities ranging from barrier-free facilities, interactive games, audio and video equipment, IT systems, motorsport and relevant exhibits, wax figures of racers as well as other items.
The bureau said that during the museum’s trial operation, MGTO will “earnestly” consider feedback from different sectors to continuously optimise the museum management and the visitors’ experience.
The museum’s opening had been postponed several times over a raft of issues.
