Foreigners in Macau can again apply for all mainland China visa categories, the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China (PRC) in the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) announced today.

According to a statement by the office on the central government's adjustment to mainland China visa rules concerning foreigners in the MSAR, foreign nationals holding permanent and non-permanent Macau resident ID cards can from today again apply for all categories of visas to the Chinese mainland. Proof of stay in the MSAR for at least 28 consecutive days before the date of application is required, the statement points out.

Moreover, all other foreigners in the MSAR who have been inoculated with a Chinese vaccine against COVID-19 ("completing two doses according to the relevant regulated period of time or over 14 days after the completion of vaccination with a single-dose vaccine produced by China") and hold a valid certificate of vaccination issued by the Macau Health Bureau (SSM), can now also apply again for all categories of visas to the Chinese mainland, the statement said.

According to the statement, applicants are required to log in to the China Online Visa Application (https://cova.mfa.gov.cn) and Appointment for Visa Application Submission system (https://avas.mfa.gov.cn) to fill out the electronic visa application form online and make an appointment.

The statement points out that applicants "with urgent humanitarian needs are exempt from making an appointment online but are required to provide the necessary supporting materials."

The office provides further information on the visa adjustment by telephone (00853-87915126) from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on working days.

According to the statement, "At this moment, we generally issue visas valid for six months with one to two entries."

The statement underlines that all those who have obtained a mainland Chinese visa shall follow the relevant requirements concerning COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control measures when entering the mainland.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the central government banned foreign nationals from entering the mainland in March last year. The entry ban was gradually relaxed earlier this year for certain visa categories.

There are various categories of foreigners in Macau, including permanent and non-permanent residents holding foreign nationality as well as foreign non-resident workers and foreign students.
