IAS reports 38 suspected domestic violence cases last year

The Social Welfare Bureau (IAS) has announced that statistics of its Central Registration System for Domestic Violence Cases shows that there were 38 suspected domestic violence cases last year.

Among the 38 suspected cases, 23 were about spousal abuse, 10 about child abuse and one about abuse of the elderly, while four cases have been classified as domestic violence between family members, the bureau said in a statement on Friday.

According to the statement, 27 of last year’s suspected domestic violence cases involved physical violence (71.1 percent of the total), while four cases (10.5 percent) involved mental abuse, two cases (5.3 percent) involved multiple forms of violence and aggression, and five cases (13.2 percent) involved sexual offences.
