Sports Bureau (ID) President Pun Weng Kun told reporters yesterday that 9,000 people have signed up for the Sands China Macao International 10K, adding that 1,000 of them are mainland runners.
Pun made the remarks on the sidelines of yesterday’s press conference at the Olympic Sports Centre Stadium in Taipa.
According to a statement provided by the Sports Bureau yesterday, the 10K race will start on Sunday at 7:30 a.m. for the 10 kilometre run and Fun Run at 7 a.m. The statement pointed out that both races will finish at the Olympic Sports Centre Stadium in Taipa. The statement also said that runners should arrive at Praça do Lago Sai Van between 5:30 a.m. and 6:45 a.m. to store their belongings and they can pick them up from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Olympic Sports Centre Stadium swimming pool area.
The statement also noted that runners must finish the race before 8:15 a.m. for the Fun Run and 9:10 a.m. for the 10 kilometre race. The statement added that those who could not finish the race within the time frame would be asked to leave the race.
The statement said that traffic arrangements are made for the race – starting at 3 a.m. on Sunday Sai Van Bridge will be partially closed, and at 5 a.m. the bridge will be completely closed for the races. Therefore, the bureau urged citizens to use Ponte de Amizade (Friendship Bridge) when travelling between Taipa and the Macau peninsula. The statement said that in order to create fewer traffic disruptions, the area between Praça do Lago Sai Van and Rua da Torre de Macau will start gradually reopening at 8:30 a.m., adding that Avenida Dr. Sun Yat-Sen and Sai Van Bridge will reopen at 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. respectively. The statement said that Praça dos Jogos da Ásia Oriental and the remaining parts of the race route would gradually reopen after the races are completed.
The bureau urged runners to prepare well for the race and get enough rest, stressing that entrants should also read the rule book carefully before Sunday. The statement underlined that runners can only eat and drink products provided by the organisers, or else they will be disqualified.

Pun confident about Grand Prix
When asked by the media whether the Grand Prix would go ahead this year, Pun said the government was still observing the COVID-19 situation around the world but he was confident that Macau would be able to host it this year.
Pun said that the preparation work for the Grand Prix had already started, pointing out that his bureau has been organising the event since 2016, so he had confidence in the organising team’s professional skills.
