The Public Security Police (PSP) announced the arrest of a woman from the mainland for allegedly telling her young daughter to steal money from the cash register of a boutique while she and two other women distracted the sales assistant by pretending to be interested in the clothes.

A PSP spokesperson said at a regular press conference that the foursome entered the boutique in Nape on Friday. The three women kept the sales assistant on the ground floor busy while the little girl went and stole cash from the cash register. A sales assistant who was upstairs at the time saw what transpired on the boutique’s CCTV monitor and rushed downstairs to stop them.

The spokesperson said that the sales assistant distracted by the three women on the ground floor had not seen what the girl was doing.

According to the spokesperson, the sales assistants searched the bag that the girl was carrying and found it contained HK$23,840 – exactly the amount of money that had vanished from the cash register – and immediately rang the police. Two of the three women then ran out of the shop.
