The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) will promote reading culture on Friday to mark the World Book Day, according to an IC statement yesterday.

The statement said that on Friday the bureau will host events such as “Macau, Guangdong and Hong Kong Read Together for Half an Hour” and “City Reading” to mark the celebration of World Book Day.

The statement said that the main event –“Macau, Guangdong and Hong Kong Read Together for Half an Hour” – will be held at the Old Courthouse in Nam Van, where people from the three regions will read together and share their reading experiences.

Meanwhile, the statement said, other events will be held at different venues such as a library tour and storybook workshops. The statement also pointed out that the bureau has urged local organisations and enterprises to host their own events to mark World Book Day, noting that up to yesterday over 50 organisations and around 15,000 people had signed up.

The statement also said that on Saturday and Sunday the bureau will organise “Macau Library Week” to encourage residents to exchange books and join its book fair. The statement underlined that the book exchange event will be held at Seac Pai Van Library where residents can exchange their books for other people’s favourite books.

The statement stressed that due to COVID-19 prevention measures, the venues will set a maximum visitor capacity, adding that once each venue reaches its limit, residents will have to queue outside. The bureau urged residents to wear a facemask and display a valid Macau Health Code on the day of the event. For more information, residents can call 2893 0077 or 2856 7576 or access www.library.gov.mo for more information.
