Until Wednesday, 5,701 people had signed up for the “Stay, Dine and See Macao” local tours, the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) said in a statement yesterday.
The statement said that on April 25, a total of 16 tours set off with 506 people. The statement added that over the May Day weekend (last Saturday and Sunday) 29 tours, with a total of 858 people, started out. The statement pointed out in the coming weekend, the bureau expects 1,326 people to travel with the “Stay, Dine and See Macao” scheme. Meanwhile, the scheme’s staycation plan has attracted 2,556 people to purchase hotel packages, comprising 6,394 guests.
The local tours comprise six itineraries, and each resident can receive a 280-pataca subsidy from the government plus an additional 100-pataca dining coupon (except for the helicopter ride experience and yacht check-in tour). The statement also pointed out that residents can use the government’s upcoming electronic consumption benefits plan to pay for the tours and staycation packages. The plan gets off the ground on June 1.
According to the statement, the local tours are expected to stimulate economic revival in local communities and to benefit small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) including the city’s Distinctive Shops and Certified Shops, among other businesses. The statement stressed that the local tours have been launched to support frontline workers from the tourism sector, while familiarising residents with local tourism resources.
The statement said that the “Stay, Dine and See Macao” project is running local tours between April 25 and December 31, adding that tours are available at weekends and on public holidays from April to June and from September to December while the frequency of tours will be augmented to daily operation as planned in July and August, the period of the school summer holidays. The statement also underlined that under the project, residents can also enjoy staycations at local hotels during the whole week and even on public holidays until December 31.
The statement said that all tours will abide to the Health Bureau’s COVID-19 pandemic prevention measures.
