The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) insisted in a statement yesterday that it has no plans to close the teahouse in Flora Garden.
According to the statement, in order to continue optimising the city’s parks and leisure areas, the bureau has set up snack booths and teahouses in several parks. The statement said that recently residents have been posting “rumours” on social media claiming that the bureau intended to close Flora Garden’s tea house. The bureau said that for the time being it had no plans to remove the teahouse.
The statement noted that the current contract with the operator of the teahouse in Flora Garden ends on October 21. However, the bureau insisted that it never notified the operator that the contract would not be renewed. On the contrary, according to the statement, not only did the operator of the teahouse notify the bureau that they did not want to renew the contract but also that they wanted to end the business on July 22.
The statement said that the bureau had already contacted the operator to gain a better understanding of the situation. The statement pointed out that if the operator continued to insist on closing down the business, the bureau would look for another operator.
