Man dies after falling from work platform

A man died after falling from a work platform from a height of more than one metre to the floor in a shopping mall in Rua do Mercado de Iao Hon on Wednesday, a Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesperson said in a statement on Wednesday.

According to a separate statement by the Public Security Police (PSP) on Wednesday afternoon, the accident occurred at the Isquare computer mall earlier that day.

According to the PJ statement, the Judiciary Police were notified by the public Conde de S. Januário Hospital Centre that the man was rushed to the hospital earlier that day where he was later confirmed dead. PJ officers confirmed that the man was repairing the water pipes in the mall’s ceiling. He fell from the work platform to the floor while repairing the pipes.

The deceased was a 65-year-old local man surnamed Chan.

A forensic examination will be carried out and the case has been referred to the PJ Investigation Section for follow-up, according to the PJ statement.

Meanwhile, the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) said it was highly concerned about the fatal accident and extended its condolences to the bereaved family, according to a statement by the bureau on Wednesday.

The bureau sent an official to the site to investigate, according to the DSAL statement.
