A man from the mainland was arrested on Friday for sexually harassing a female tourist at a hotel lift lobby in Cotai earlier that day, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Wong Wai Chon said at a press conference yesterday.

The 39-year-old jobless suspect surnamed Hu holds an Exit-Entry Permit for Travelling to and from Hong Kong and Macau (colloquially known as a Two-way Permit).

According to Wong, a couple from the mainland reported to the Public Security Police at the hotel early Friday that the woman was sexually harassed by a man while she was waiting for the lift in the lobby with her husband earlier that night.

The 20-year-old female victim told PSP officers that she felt someone behind her suddenly touch her buttocks. The victim told her husband about the incident and they confronted the suspect about it. The suspect denied that he had sexually harassed the woman, claiming that he had merely touched her accidentally. PSP officers scrutinised the hotel’s CCTV footage which showed that Hu had deliberately touched the woman’s bottom.

Hu was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) on Friday, facing sexual harassment charges, according to Wong.

This undated handout photo provided by the Public Security Police (PSP) shows the sexual harassment suspect being escorted by PSP officers from a police station to a PSP vehicle in Taipa.
