A Judiciary Police (PJ) officer committed suicide by burning charcoal in his car in a parking space near Sai Van Lake, PJ spokesman Ho Chan Nam said in a statement yesterday.

According to Ho’s statement, the Judiciary Police received a call from the family of a PJ officer earlier yesterday that they had lost contact with him. The Judiciary Police later located the victim’s car in a parking space near Sai Van Lake, and found the victim and burnt charcoal inside. The victim’s death was confirmed at the scene.

The victim is a 47-year-old male surnamed Cheang, according to the statement.

Based on a preliminary investigation, the Judiciary Police believe that the officer committed suicide for personal reasons by burning charcoal; a suicide note was found in the car, according to the statement.

There was no evidence of foul play, according to the statement.

The exact cause of death has yet to be determined by forensic examination. The case has been referred to the PJ Investigation Section for follow-up.
