Art Macao returns with pre-events: IC

“Art Macao”, a mega-international cultural and artistic event will take place from July to October, and the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) is launching pre-events this month, an IC statement said this week.

Tuesday’s statement said that “Art Macao” aims to connect the whole world with creativity, highlighting this year’s mega event “Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2021”, themed “To create for well-being”. The statement said that the aim of the event is to promote the reputation of the city as a UNESCO World Heritage city and reshape the humanistic spirit in the “post-epidemic era”.

According to the statement, the “Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2021” is divided into several sections: Main Exhibition, Special Exhibition of Resorts and Hotels, Public Art Exhibition, Creative City Pavilion, Selected Works by Local Artists , and Collateral Exhibition.

The statement noted that this year’s theme will be “Advance and retreat of globalisation” the Main Exhibition is divided into three parts: “The Dream of Mazu”, “Matteo Ricci’s Labyrinth of Memory” and “Advance and Retreat of Globalisation”, providing a space for reflection and discussion on globalisation and individuality, life and dreams, remoteness and proximity, security and happiness, among others.

Meanwhile, the statement said that lectures by the chief curator of the event Qiu Zhijie at the auditorium on the first floor of the Macau Museum of Art in July. The first lecture entitled “The Curatorial Logic of the Macao Biennale” will be held at 7p.m. on July 6, while the second lecture entitled “Where is Asia?” will be held at 3 p.m. on July 18.

The statement said that in order to warm up for the big event in July, residents can participate in a romantic composition contest organised by the “Art Macao”, the Creative City Pavilion “Macau - City of Gastronomy: Bon Appétit!”. The theme of the composition will be the city’s famous representative souvenir “Louhpoh pastry” and “Louhgung pastry” from today to June 30. “Louhpoh” and “Louhgung” are the Cantonese words for “wife” and “husband”.

However, the Cantonese term “Louhpoh Beng” is widely known as “Sweetheart Cake” in English.

The aim of the competition is to promote the idea of “Love in Food. Love in Poems”. The statement underlined that participants will have a chance to receive a prize of up to 3,000 patacas. The statement underlined that entries must be written in either Chinese or Portuguese.
