Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng has vowed that the local government will "spare no effort to realise the aspirations" outlined by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), in his speech at Thursday's grand ceremony in Beijing that marked the Party's 100th anniversary.

According to a statement released by the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS), Ho made the pledge on Friday during a seminar at the Macau Science Centre attended by senior local government officials and community leaders as well as high-ranking central government officials posted to Macau  about Xi's important speech at Tian'anmen Square.

Ho, a former member of the elite Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), underlined three points that he personally gleaned from Xi's speech.

First, the Communist Party of China's century-long history of leading the endeavours of the Chinese people have proven that without the Party, there would be no New China, and there wouldn't be such bright prospects for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Through their tenacious struggle, the Party and the Chinese people have shown the world that the Chinese nation has achieved a tremendous transformation, from standing up and growing prosperous, to becoming strong, and that China’s national rejuvenation has become a historical inevitability.

Second, the CPC is the pioneer, the leader, and the guardian of the “One Country, Two Systems” principle. Without the Party, there wouldn't be the prosperity and stability enjoyed in Macau under the “One Country, Two Systems” principle. History has proven that the principle was the best proposal for solving the historical issues in relation to Hong Kong and Macau and the best systemic framework for Macau to maintain long-term stability and prosperity after returning to the motherland in 1999.

Third, the CPC leadership should always be respected and safeguarded, and further efforts should be made to maintain the successful implementation of the “One Country, Two Systems” principle. The Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) government will always be steadfast in upholding the Party's leadership, and it will not allow in Macau any activities that pose a challenge to the authority of the central government, the nation's Constitution or the Macau Basic Law. The MSAR government will unite the local community in realising  the aspirations outlined by Xi at Thursday's ceremony and during his previous inspection visits to Macau.

Meanwhile, Ho also underlined that the local government will spare no effort to advance the steady progress of the “One Country, Two Systems” principle with local characteristics, in order to enjoy and share in the nation's development progress and prosperity.

Ho also stressed that Xi included in his speech important instructions regarding the further advancement of the “One Country, Two Systems” principle in the new era.

Ho, who has headed the MSAR government since December 20, 2019, also pledged that Macau will make its utmost effort to implement accurately the aspirations outlined by Xi and his string of important speeches, safeguard the central government’s overall jurisdiction over Macau, implement the legal arrangements and enforcement mechanisms for Macau to safeguard national security, and protect the country’s sovereignty, security, and development interests, thus ensuring and maintaining social stability and lasting prosperity and stability in Macau.
