An event entitled “Project Sands X: Beyond the Blue (無限超越) – an Exhibition of Ceramic Extraordinaire” is being held at the Venetian Macao resort in Cotai.
The exhibition is hosted by Sands China Ltd. in conjunction with the government’s Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2021.
According to a statement by Sands China, the exhibition features artworks by over 20 internationally renowned ceramists, rising artists and art institutions. The artists have combined technology and ceramics with innovative presentations, the statement points out. Visitors are able to interact with selected pieces via a free augmented reality (AR) smartphone app and they can create their own virtual artwork or digitally insert exhibition elements into their selfies. Audio guides on smartphones are also available.
The exhibition’s “objective is not only to deeply explore the connections between ceramics and technology, but also to go beyond the traditional blue and white colour scheme of ceramics,” the exhibition brochure notes.
Besides, according to the brochure, the exhibition also aims to bring positivity to the world through works that go beyond all expectations and imagination, “while inspiring us to likewise go beyond the blue mood of the [COVID-19] pandemic in optimism for a brighter future near at hand.”
A parallel exhibition also titled “Beyond the Blue” is being held at the Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse, New York. The Everson Museum of Art has created a real-time exhibition that can be viewed in 3D by remote visitors on their smartphones and on an interactive screen in the Venetian Macao’s main lobby. Viewers are able to manoeuvre through the 360-degree space, while translated text and audio-video hyperlinks provide more information in English and Chinese, the statement noted.
Moreover, the exhibition features 14 artworks from the Everson Museum of Art at the Venetian Macao.
The event runs until October 31 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily in the main lobby of Venetian Macao. Admission is free.
Furthermore, the statement added that in order to strengthen support for “Art Macao” this year, Sands China is also holding a competition entitled “Time is On My Side (明日可及) – 2021 Greater Bay Area (GBA) Young Artists Scheme – A Competition of Painting & Photography” over the same period. The call for entries opened last week to young local and GBA artists. The deadline is August 27. The winning works will be displayed at The Londoner from September 28 to October 15. The competition aims to promote cultural exchanges and development within the Greater Bay Area, as well as to encourage young artists to persist with their creative endeavours. More information is available at https://en.sandsresortsmacao.com/art-competition.html.
As part of the government’s COVID-19 prevention measures, all visitors entering the venue must wear a facemask, have their temperature checked and present a digital health code.
