Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) Deputy Director Ricky Hoi Io Meng told reporters yesterday that the “MAK MAK Light Rapid Transit (LRT) Pass” for visitors is budgeted at 640,000 patacas, predicting that the government would give out around 10,000 passes.
Hoi made the remarks yesterday on the sidelines of yesterday’s opening ceremony at the Venetian for information counters set up at six local resorts.
According to Hoi, the pass is a collaboration between MGTO and the LRT company, aiming to extend visitors’ stay in Macau and enable them to explore more communities in the city.
An MGTO statement said on Saturday that the “MAK MAK Light Rapid Transit (LRT) Pass” scheme started yesterday, pointing out that visitors arriving in Macau on Air Macau flights can claim a special LRT Pass at the Macau International Airport by presenting their travel document and boarding pass. The statement noted that with the special LRT pass, visitors can enjoy unlimited rides on the LRT for three days.
According to the statement, visitors can redeem the pass upon arrival at the Tourist Information counter in the arrivals hall (from 9:00 a.m.to 8:00 p.m.), and at the ticketing counter of Air Macau in the departures hall (8:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.). The statement underlined that the special pass is available for redemption on a first-come, first-served basis. The statement also said that visitors can only redeem the pass once and within 7-days of arrival, stressing that it cannot be exchanged for cash.
The statement said that after the three-days of use, the special pass can be used and recharged for a period of 10 years, and it will be extended after every recharge.
Mak Mak is the official MGTO mascot, its shape resembling a blacked-faced spoonbill and the local light house.
The statement reminded the public that the service hours of the LRT run from 6:30 a.m. to 11:15 p.m, noting that the trains run every 10-15 minutes. For more information about the LRT, visitors can check the website https://www.mlm.com.mo.
