Two men, a local and a mainlander, were arrested on Sunday for sheltering an overstayer from the mainland, according to a statement from the Public Security Police (PSP) on Wednesday.

According to the statement, police officers set up a roadblock near Avenida dos Jogos da Ásia Oriental in Taipa on Sunday. The officers stopped a car with three men inside aged between 30 and 40 – the local driver and two passengers from the mainland. The officers discovered that one of the mainlanders was an overstayer.

The overstayer told the police that the other passenger was his friend and that they both stayed in a hotel guestroom in Cotai.

The overstayer’s mainland friend introduced the local man to him who had driven them around the city earlier that day for sightseeing and entertainment. The officers stopped the car when the trio were on the way back to the hotel, according to the statement.

The local driver and the male passenger from the mainland have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a charge of sheltering an overstayer, according to the statement.
