A local man, in his twenties, reported to the Judiciary Police (PJ) on Saturday that he had been blackmailed by a “Taiwan lady” who claimed that she was under quarantine at a local hotel. The victim reported a loss of 46,800 yuan (57,800 patacas), PJ spokeswoman Lei Hon Nei said at a press briefing on Monday.
According to Lei, the victim told the police that he met the “Taiwan lady” via a social media app on Friday and added her as a friend. She told him that she was quarantined in a local hotel and the next day, she proposed a nude chat. Soon after the chat which lasted just about a minute, the victim received a video link of the chat in which the “Taiwan lady” told him to pay 5,000 yuan, otherwise she would send the video link to everyone on his contact list.
Lei said the victim paid the 5,000 yuan via a smartphone payment app. Soon afterwards, the “Taiwan lady” asked him three times for more money, and he transferred 23,800 yuan, 8,000 yuan and 10,000 yuan into three bank accounts in the mainland. After transferring the money, the “Taiwan lady” “asked for even more money but the victim finally decided to report the case to the police.
Lei did not say whether the “Taiwan lady” sent the video link to the victim’s contact list.
