A local chef was arrested on Tuesday for taking upskirts of a woman in a lift of an underpass in Rua Cidade de Sintra last week, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Choi Iok Kin said at a press briefing yesterday.
The local suspect surnamed Leong, who is in his forties, told the police that he works as a chef.
According to Choi, three women reported to the Public Security Police last Wednesday that a man took upskirts of one of them in a lift at the underpass in Rua Cidade de Sintra in the morning of that day. The victim told the police that she was in the lift with two female friends. The victim’s friends saw that a man standing beside the victim was taking upskirts of her with his smartphone. Her friends stopped the man and confronted him. They asked him to let them check his smartphone but they were unable to find any of the victim’s photos. However, the women told the man that they would call the police and the man immediately ran away. The women chased after the man but were unable to catch him so they decided to report the case to the police.
Choi said the Public Security Police scrutinised CCTV footage from the nearby area and identified Leong as the suspect. PSP officers arrested him in Rua de João de Araújo in San Kio district on Tuesday. Under questioning, Leong admitted to upskirting the woman. He told the police that he had been browsing pornographic websites for two years and developed a fetish for uniform skirts and ladies’ tights. He started taking upskirts of office ladies at the end of last December in the vicinity of Avenida do Infante D. Henrique and Avenida de D. João IV in Nam Van. PSP officers later retrieved 4,200 upskirts from Leong’s two other smartphones and a tablet computer.
The case will be transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP). Leong faces an invasion of privacy charge, according to Choi.
