The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) statement said yesterday that two “Mr. Porky” snack products imported from the UK are suspected of being contaminated with salmonella.

According to the statement, the two products are Mr. Porky Crispy Strips (weight per bag: 35 gramme) and Mr. Porky Original Scratchings (weight per bag: 40 grammes). The statement noted that Jenzet Limited (進實有限公司) is the sole importer in Hong Kong and the affected batch has its best-before date as February, 19, 2022.

The statement noted that salmonella is widely spread among farm and wild animals, adding that it is mostly seen in edible animals, their organs or products. The statement said that patients who suffer from salmonella poisoning often ate contaminated or uncooked eggs, egg products, milk, milk products, meat or meat products. The statement stressed that salmonella cannot survive in hot temperatures, pointing out that cooking food well can help kill salmonella. The statement also underlined that especially young children and old people should avoid eating eggs, egg products or uncooked food.

According to the statement, the bureau has immediately followed up on the case and sent out a warning to the food industry. The statement said that it has already sent officials to visit a number of shops, adding that the problematic products are on sale in Macau.

The statement said that in order to ensure food safety, the bureau has told food retailers to stop selling the products and has recalled them. The statement said that shops should contact the bureau’s food safety department to protect public health. Meanwhile, the bureau also urged residents to stop eating the products. The statement stressed that the bureau will continue to monitor the products in the local market.

On the Mr Porky website last night, the company had issued a product recall notice on August 20.
