Macau registered over 21,000 visitor arrivals on Wednesday after the validity period for a negative nucleic acid test (NAT) was extended from 48 hours to seven days, a Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) statement said yesterday.

According to the statement, the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre announced on August 23 that effective from 0:00 on August 25, individuals intending to cross the border between Macau and Guangdong province must present a valid negative NAT result taken within seven days. The statement noted that Macau recorded over 21,000 visitor arrivals on August 25, which marks a rebound of a single-day record to 20,000 since the city confirmed a Delta variant four-member family cluster on August 3 and further tightened its measures against the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The statement said that via its official accounts on WeChat, Weibo, Xiaohongshu, Douyin and other platforms, MGTO is actively promoting public awareness of the extension of the NAT’s validity period. The statement said that MGTO strives to promote Macau as a safe and quality destination through a variety of channels.
